December is an exciting time in the art room. For those that are in AP Art History there is a VERY special artist speaking at Herron School of Art and Design this upcoming Wednesday. Judy Chicago (who may I add is in our art history book) will be sharing her insights into art. Attending this talk is extra credit and you will be able to go to this event and one other of the December events for this month's extra credit. So take advantage!! Here is the site with the details: http://www.iupui.edu/~iahi/?tag=judy-chicago.
For all my students in my classes we have the Scholastic art and Writing Awards approaching. These awards are a unique opportunity to share you best works with the rest of schools in the state and possibly the rest of the US. This art competition is one of the most prestigious with previous winner being; Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Richard Avedon, and Joyce Carol Oates. We at Brownsburg High School have a good precedence set for the amount of winners we have each year. When a student wins a Gold Key or Silver Key they receive a certificate and are asked to be part of an exhibition of works that are shown at Clowes Hall on the local Butler University campus. This is a unique opportunity for students to see their work in a gallery setting. Each work is $5 to enter up until Dec 15th. If your student is interested have them speak with me to get them entered, we will need the entry fee turned in by the 7th so that we can have a check sent out to the awards. The awards are open until January 4th but all entries postmarked after that 15th are a $10 entry fee.
