Watch me November 27th!
Enjoy the small reprieve my little Art Historians! This is a wonderful series from the BBC, I really liked this episode. But you should actually be watching this and paying attention, not somewhat watching this while you finish Calculus homework:) Also, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Giving a good presentation:
Romanesque
You all will be doing a slide presentation during this chapter. Each group is responsible for 11 slides of the chapter that they are to lecture on. You will be meeting with me on Dec. 6th in the Media Center and connecting with me via Adobe Connect so that I can give a proper introduction into the architecture of the Romanesque Period. This will give you all a jumping off point from there to start your lectures.
Here is the list of the groups and what slides they are responsible for:
· Purple Gladiators: 1-10 Reliquary of St. Foy
· A-Team: 11-22
· Fellowship:23-29 Hildegard and Volmar, 30-32
· Ninja Turtles: 33-39 and all of Bayeux Tapestry

Gothic
You guys need a break!!! You have been working REALLY hard and I appreciate every minute of that hard work, as will your APAH Exam scores in May. So as we leave the Romanesque era we are about to embark onto the Gothic.....OOOoooOOoo....creepy.....not really. There is a lot that happens with the Gothic era and I will be giving a lot of the details when we get back from break. But in the meantime I want you guys to watch this Nova episode that discusses the building of the Great Cathedrals. Again, pay close attention, this is not a time to catch up on missed AP Psych assignments.
December 16th Activity
December 17th Activity
Ok, so for the next few days you all are going to be doing some things a bit differently than we have been in the past weeks since I have been gone. So pay close attention to the directions.
Cathedral Handbook: Using your purple syllabus flip to the churches and cathedrals handbook. You are going to need to use an APAH textbook for this one and possibly the internet. Look to your Romanesque and Gothic Chapter Summary's for help with any of the vocab, etc. You can do this activity with your study group.
The handbook you will be working on today and tomorrow (18th). Most of these churches are in your textbook so finding the answers should be fairly easy.
A couple of notes when completing the handbook:

A couple of notes when completing the handbook:
- Reading the Gothic chapter is going to help IMMENSELY so that you know what is being asked of you. Although, the handbook starts with Romanesque cathedrals so you should start out on familiar ground.
- Pages 521, 522, and 526 should be of particular help. You can also look at the plans of all the churches for assistance with vocab.
- When the instructions ask you to count the "units" they are referring to the units of measurements that are using in cathedral called Bays. In Chartres Cathedral you are asked about the "Schemastism" they are again referring to the bays.
- When you are asked to label anything write directly on the portion it is referring to, or you can draw an arrow with your word at the blunt end.
- When asked about alternate support systems, it is referring to extra types of buttressing that may have been added.
- For help with vault types, see the illustration below. Where applicable, make sure to mention if the vault is 4 part, 6 part, etc. If you do not see the vault you are looking for in that diagram, follow the link located below for a fuller list of those available.
- On Page 11 you are asked to cut and paste, do not bother doing that. Go ahead and leave this handbook in your packet.
- Page 12-16 you can leave blank for now. We can go over this section together at a later time.
December 18th and 20th
The beginning of the 18th you will be using that time to finish up the Cathedral Handbook. For the rest of the 18th and during your finals on the 20th I have a special project. I have ordered some REALLY cool models of cathedrals for you guys. I am sorry if you aren't a "model type of person". But I could NOT resist. I ordered two cathedrals; two groups on one, and two groups on the other. Have the Editors begin looking at the directions and devising a plan. Secretaries can delegate what should be done by whom and when. Checkers can keep the instructions and make sure that everything is being put together right and the webmaster can do the majority of the big building parts. This is not a grade, but these were really expensive so try and have fun and make it pretty:) I look forward to seeing them. Everything can be stored in one of the available back cabinets. If you do not finish that is ok, we will have fun finishing it when I get back.
